中南大学计算机科学与技术学科于1977年开始招收电子计算机专业本科生，1982年开始招收硕士研究生，2001年获计算机应用技术博士点，2002年获计算机科学与技术博士后科研流动站，2010年获国家一级学科博士授予权，2011年获湖南省一级重点学科，2021年计算机科学与技术进入ESI学科排名全球前1‰。学院拥有电子信息、智能科学与技术、生物与医药专业学位博士授权点。获批国家级基础学科拔尖学生培养计划2.0基地、国家级首批特色化示范性软件学院,共有计算机科学与技术、软件工程、数据科学与大数据技术、信息安全4个专业，均为国家级一流建设专业。
学院师资力量雄厚，现有教职工164人，教授、研究员48人，副教授58人，其中包括国家级教学名师、国家杰青等国家级人才12人，湖南省科技创新领军人才、湖南省杰青等省级人才34人。现有学生4162人，其中本科生2761人，硕士生847人，博士生428人，留学生126人。
学院紧紧围绕“双一流”建设目标，坚持对接国家和行业重大需求、促进学科融合，加强创新平台和团队建设，科技成果日渐丰硕。近五年科研进账经费近4亿元，获得省部级及行业协会科学技术奖20余项，授权发明专利500余项，在国内外重要学术期刊上发表论文2000余篇，承担国家自然科学基金、国家科技计划类项目近300项，省部级及企业委托项目累计300余项，拥有省部级研究平台18个。在算法理论与新型计算、具身智能与无人系统、图形图像与可视分析、网络优化与系统安全、大数据计算与智能软件、生物信息计算与数字健康等多个领域形成鲜明的研究特色，为人才培养和社会服务奠定了良好的研究基础。
Computer science and technology is one of the characteristic disciplines in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Central South University.Undergraduate majoring in electronic computer enrollment began in 1977, master's enrollment in 1982.It launched its PhD program in Computer Application Technology in 2001, and established a postdoctoral researchcenterin Computer Science and Technology in 2002.In 2010, it was authorized to confer doctoral degrees in the first-level discipline of Computer Science and Technology.In 2011, it was designated as a Hunan ProvincialKey DisciplineofFirst-level ,and in 2021, Computer Science and Technologyis amongthe top 1‰ globally in the ESI.The school currently offers professional doctoral degree programs in Electronic Information, Intelligent Science and Technology, and Biology and Medicine. It has been approved as a National Top-Notch Student Training Program 2.0 Base for Basic Disciplines and one oftheearlistnationalcharacteristicdemonstrationsoftwarecollege. The college offers fourNational First-Class Undergraduateprograms: Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Information Security.
Theschoolhas establisheda strong faculty team with 164 faculty and staff members, including 48 professors and researchers, and 58 associate professors. Among these, thereare 12 nationally recognized scholars and experts such as NationalDistinguishedTeachers and recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and 34 provincial-level talents including Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talents and recipients of the Hunan Provincial Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.Currently, there are 4,162 students in theschool, consisting of 2,761 undergraduates, 847 master's students, 428 doctoral students, among whom 126 are international students..
Guided by the goals of China’s “Double First-Class” initiative, the school is committed to addressing major national and industrial needs, promoting interdisciplinary integration, and strengthening the construction of innovation platforms and teams, the school has achieved remarkable progress in scientific research and technological innovation.Overthe past five years, theschoolhas received nearlyRMB400 million in research funding,receivedmore than 20 provincial, ministerial and industry association science and technology awards.The schoolbeen granted over 500 invention patents. It has published more than 2,000 papers in leading domestic and international academic journals, undertakennearly300 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and national science and technology plans, and completed over 300 provincial, ministerial and enterprise-commissioned projects cumulatively. Theschoolpossesses 18 provincial and ministerial research platforms and has developed distinctive research strengths in multiple fields, including Algorithm Theory and New Computing, Embodied Intelligence and Unmanned Systems, Graphics, Images and Visual Analysis, Network Optimization and System Security, Big Data Computing and Intelligent Software, and Bioinformatics Computing and Digital Health, laying a solid research foundation for talent cultivation and social services.
